The above statement must be something that people heard a lot in their life. Today, those words has been ringing in my brain numerous of times already.
It all started this weekend. On one fine Sunday, my uncle had decided to invite me and my aunt to lunch before the movement restriction is being implemented on Monday. It’s been months since we last saw each other, and it definitely wouldn’t be a bad thing to get a free luncheon for me, so I went along.
During the lunchtime, we updated one another on life, and truly, the pandemic has made many changes in our life, one of which, my aunt’s company is going through a lot that made my aunt feel very stressful. We (my uncle to be precise), told her some handful suggestions in the hope to cheer her up. Well, at the very least, we still got our job in these times…
Probably, to make herself feel better, my aunt decided that she was going to buy herself a new iPhone that she had been wanting to buy. And she offered me her old one to be used. Granted, it wasn’t for free, but I bought it at a good price from her.
So we went to an iPhone store in the evening and we found out that the connection in the store is quite bad so there were quite a few problems on transferring her data to the new phone. The one responsible in the store doesn’t look like he knows what he’s doing either, it was a mess, and to top it off, my aunt had promised to meet her friend in one hour.
Long story short, the store couldn’t transfer all her data. Some important ones have been successfully moved, but her photos still remained in her old phone. Out of excitement, both of us went our own way that evening, with me having her used phone in my hand to go home with me.
Out of excitement, I directly opened my laptop to backup her data there so I can use the phone immediately. Without much thinking, I installed my data instantly once I backed up the data.
I definitely learned that it was a bad decision.
The next day, me and my aunt met one another only to find out that her data that was stored in my phone cannot be transferred because it requires a password that we cannot find.
To top it off, upon the launch of the new IOS 14, I tried to backup my data from my new phone (which was my aunt’s) and ended up deleting her stored backup. I literally have no idea how I managed to do it….
Lesson learned: always wait patiently, do not be overwhelmed by excitement, or anything. Indeed, too much of anything is never a good thing.
